Empowering Abilities. Discovering Superpowers.

At Able Life Services, we believe everyone has strengths worth celebrating. “Superpowers”

Our mission is to discover, nurture, and celebrate each individual’s unique strengths, talents, and abilities—because “What is your Superpower?” is more than a question. It is the foundation of growth, independence, and purpose.

Able Life Services is committed to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities across New Jersey by providing compassionate support, innovative programs, and inclusive opportunities tailored to each person’s unique needs. Guided by the belief that everyone has a Superpower, we ask “What is your Superpower?” as we work to discover, develop, and celebrate the individual strengths and skills of those we serve. Through personalized services, community engagement, and advocacy, we promote independence, enhance quality of life, and ensure every individual can lead a fulfilling ABLE life—thriving and growing within their communities.

Executive director, Able Life Services

Carmen Brown’s professional journey has always centered on one purpose: supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to live meaningful, connected, and empowered lives.

Carmen began her career as a Special Education teacher, working directly with students with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, and other developmental needs in self-contained classroom settings. During her years in education, she designed and implemented individualized education plans, supported social and emotional development, and partnered closely with families to help students grow with dignity and confidence. This early work shaped her belief that progress happens when individuals are seen for their strengths, not their limitations.

As her career evolved, Carmen expanded into healthcare leadership while continuing to work closely with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities in home and community settings. As a Registered Nurse and healthcare administrator, she remained deeply connected to direct care—assessing individuals in their home environments, developing care plans, and supporting families through complex transitions in adulthood.

Despite success in healthcare leadership and business growth, Carmen felt a strong calling to return to the developmental disability community, particularly adults who often face a gap in meaningful, structured support after leaving the school system. Able Life Services was created from that calling.

At Able Life Services, Carmen brings together her background in special education, nursing, psychology, and health administration to create a program that feels safe, social, and person-centered. Her approach is grounded in the belief that adulthood should include opportunity, choice, and joy—and that every individual has a Superpower waiting to be recognized.

Carmen leads Able Life Services with compassion, cultural understanding, and lived experience. As a Spanish-speaking professional, she is committed to ensuring families feel heard, supported, and understood throughout their journey.

Under her leadership, Able Life Services is a place where participants are encouraged to grow at their own pace, build real-world skills, form meaningful relationships, and thrive within their communities supported by a team that truly understands their needs.

“Together, we help participants discover their Superpower—and build a life that reflects it.”
